What a roofer's service area page needs

A service area page tells a customer in one town that you work there, and shows them what to expect. Done well, it helps a homeowner decide to call you. Done badly, it is your home page with the town name swapped.

What a service area page is, and is not

  • It is one page about one town you really serve.
  • It is not a list of 40 towns.
  • It is not a copy of another page with a different name on it.
  • It is not a page for a town you do not work in.

The five parts every page needs

  1. Real local detail. Something true about roofing in that town, such as the kinds of homes and roofs you see there or the weather that wears them out. If you do not know it, do not write it.
  2. Real photos. Pictures from your own jobs in or near that town, described honestly. Skip stock photos presented as local work.
  3. The services you offer there. Only the ones you actually do in that town.
  4. Nearby towns. Name the towns you also cover, and link to their pages if you have them.
  5. One clear way to ask for a quote. A phone number that works and one form. Use the same ones on every page.

What to leave out

  • Text copied from another page with the town name swapped.
  • Claims you cannot back up, such as licenses, insurance, warranties, awards or ratings that are not on your own site or profiles.
  • Long lists of towns stuffed into the footer.
  • Storm claims about events that did not happen in that area.

How to check a page is not a near-copy

Put two of your town pages side by side. If you can swap the town name and nothing else has to change, the page is thin. Add something that is true only of that town, or do not publish it. Search engines can treat near-identical pages as low value, so it is better to publish one real page than several copies.

Start small

Begin with one to three towns where you have real jobs and photos. Add more as you collect real detail about each.
